Surfing courses for children with mental health difficulties
The Wave Project has recently received funding from BBC Children In Need to run a new series of surfing courses for children with mental health difficulties. There are 40 places available, and they hope to have the courses up and running by September.

Any child under 18 with a diagnosed mental health problem will qualify, provided they are referred by a professional service or charity. Lessons will be delivered in groups of around 10 children, and each child will receive one-to-one instruction in the water, as well as group work. The courses last six weeks, one session per week.

Courses will be run by qualified surfing instructors and supported by selected volunteers. All kit is provided.

If you know anyone who may be interested, or would like more information, please contact Joe Taylor on 07584 124873.

Big Health Day
Date: Thursday 27 October 2011
Location: Cornwall
The Big Health Day, run by The Eden Project and NHS Cornwall, is an engagement event with people with learning disabilities, their family members and carers. The Eden Project and NHS Cornwall want to find out what people with learning disabilities think about health services: the quality and accessibility of services, advice and support. The day is aimed at adults with a learning disability, but will also have information about transition services.

In addition to the stalls with information on a range of health and health related services, there will be lots of activities on offer, including dance workshops and soup making. Last year's event was well attended with 250 attendees.

For more information about this event please contact Jayna Taylor on 01726 627975 or [email protected]
