Workshops

All workshops will be repeated and are subject to alteration. Delegates can choose to attend two out of three available workshops (one for the morning and one for the afternoon).

Workshop 1 (This workshop is suitable for young disabled people)
Oaklands College – Supporting students into employment
Ela will talk about her work as an outreach worker at Oaklands. You will also hear from two young people who are fully occupied with a mix of paid employment, college and volunteering.

Workshop 2
The Transition for young people with Learning difficulties from education to employment
Stephen will give an overview of the project carried out in partnership with the Shaw Trust, looking at the transition of young people with learning disabilities to employment and what works.

Workshop 3 (This workshop is suitable for young disabled people)
The Shaw Trust – Supporting young people into employment
Kim Croysdill, Young People’s Services Manager
In this workshop you will hear about how the Shaw Trust supports young people into employment, this will include information about their alternative curriculum programme, case studies and a chance to ask questions and discuss the issues.

Active Independent Living

Dimensions: Transition seminars

Starts: 7th February 2008

Dimensions are hosting 4 regional seminars for parents with children who have learning difficulties aged 14-19.

We invite parents to learn more about good practice measures from Dimensions Transition Service and the tools that help make this happen, such as person centred approaches and self-directed support.

The day will be a good opportunity to network with other parents and share information about experiences.

We have a limited number of 30 guests per event for parents only, so please do book early to avoid disappointment as it will be on a first come first served basis.

NCB have come together with fpa and Contact a Family to deliver a two-day training course that will enable practitioners and advisors who work with young people with physical impairments, to develop practical and sensitive approaches to meeting their needs in relation to Sex and Relationships Education (SRE).
