Young Person’s Guide to the Residential Special Schools Standards is a website for young people in residential special schools outlining the standards that every residential special school in England must meet. It has a list of the rules that all schools should use, useful contacts and advice on what to do if things go wrong.

Snowdon Award Scheme

The Snowdon Award Scheme makes awards for human support such as note-takers and sign language interpreters; computer equipment; adapted or additional accommodation; travel costs; mobility equipment and other costs that relate solely to disability and are not met by statutory funding.
Grants range from £250 to £2,000 per year and are for a period of one or two years. Students of all nationalities may apply for support, but the study course must be provided by a UK college or university. Candidates will have a physical disability and be between 17 and 25 years of age at the beginning of the period of education or training for which funding is being sought. Mature students may apply, subject to available funds. The closing date for applications is 31 May each year. Applications received after this date will be considered in October, funds permitting.
