Launch of AHDC materials

At a national conference on the 15 May 2008 Ed Balls MP, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families announced
a major new package of support for disabled children and their families, as part of the Aiming High for Disabled Children programme.

Various implementation tools were launched at the event, as well as materials about Aiming High for Disabled Children and a new website. The website has a section on transition support.

One of the workshops focused on transition, where delegates heard from Chris Bush, head of transitions in Birmingham and Chair of the Transition information Network, and Hardip Begol, from the DCSF. Hardip set out some of the detail of the Transition Support Programme, and made it clear that the programme would be starting in September.
Ivan Lewis MP, Care Services Minister and Andrew Adonis, Minister for Schools, also
spoke at the conference calling on delegates to take this opportunity to transform services for families in their local areas.

The key elements of the transformation package include: a Core Offer that sets out in one place a national statement of expectations for how disabled children and their families will be informed and involved in their services.
