Research into epilepsy & learning disability

Naomi Beinart is a student at UCL and is conducting research into the factors that influence the health and quality of life of carers of adults with epilepsy and learning disabilities.

I am studying factors that influence the health and quality of life of carers of adults with epilepsy and learning disabilities at UCL. Epilepsy disproportionately affects people with learning disabilities; however research has shown a lack of focus on the extra needs of adults with both epilepsy and learning disabilities and particularly the needs of their carers. This leads to carers suffering avoidable stress and affects their role as a carer. I will be asking carers what problems (e.g. health, social) the person they care for have that make their role as a carer more difficult; whether they themselves have any mental or physical problems as a result of this; and what strategies they use to deal with these problems.

This information will be useful in developing strategies to improve the coping skills and resources available to carers, with the aim of improving their lives and the care they deliver.

I will be using short questionnaires and may also wish to do a short interview with you if you have the time, but this is not essential. I should be able to do this by email and phone, but if you are Surrey or London based, it would be great to be able to interview you in person if you are available.

Please feel free to call or email me at 0044. 7793 754742 and naomibeinart@gmail.com for more information or if you're willing to give me your details to do questionnaires / interview at a later date.
