Our research and policy work helps us understand the precise needs of children and young people today, and to inform fundamental decisions relating to policy and practice across the sector.
Developing a robust evidence base is integral to this. We achieve this through a range of high quality research projects that identify and fill gaps in evidence, uncover unknown needs, and identify what works and why.
Real world relevance and impact are our goals. Our research findings inform the design, delivery and improvement of all of NCB's work, from creating training programmes to improving engagement approaches.
Evidence also underpins our policy and public affairs activities to influence the decision makers - be that developing policy positions, briefing parliamentarians, or making the case for change.
The integrated nature of our department means that policy also influences our research. Up to date intelligence on external opportunities, risks and change directly feeds into our research planning, prioritisation and knowledge sharing.
We also make sure that children and young people are meaningfully involved in our work – they help shape our research questions, co-designing and testing our methods, and translating information into real world insight.
